The Bob Mizer Foundation will host a memorial to the late groundbreaking pornographer David Hurles on Saturday, June 3, 2024, at the Foundation's San Francisco headquarters.
Hurles, who died on April 12 in Los Angeles, rocketed to fame for daring to invite criminals, drifters, addicts and hustlers into his home and in front of his lens, creating still unique photos, videos, and audio tapes. The June 3 memorial will include remarks by writer/editor and longtime Hurles friend Dian Hanson, who cared for the artist and his Old Reliable archive following a stroke in 2008. Hanson will read excerpts from her Hurles profile for the Bob Mizer Foundation's upcoming Volume 65 of Physique Pictorial. Drummer founder Jack Fritscher and sex-positive feminist Susie Bright may also attend and share their memories of Hurles.
The memorial organizers are requesting attendees to RSVP to info@bobmizer.org to be added to the list.
No one knew David Hurles better than Dian Hanson, and were honored that she has offered to share her memories of him, alongside his best friends, supporters and contemporaries, says Den Bell, founder, president and CEO of the Foundation, "David Hurles' masterful works brought the rough trade we only fantasized encountering to life, and his influence on photographers ever since cannot be overstated.
