SAN FRANCISCO – The Bob Mizer Foundation will host its first Speaker Series event of the calendar year when it hosts male physique culture expert Trent Dunphy at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17.
Local residents might recognize Dunphy from the now-closed business The Magazine, which Dunphy owned and operated for 50 years with his husband and business partner, the late Bob Mainardi. Dunphy and Mainardi gifted The Magazine’s building to the Foundation, which has occupied the building since last year.
Dunphy and Mainardi spent decades meeting with and studying the 20th century’s greatest male physique photographers and figures in male physique culture. The evening’s event will feature Dunphy sharing tales and memories of those years.
Den Bell, the Bob Mizer Foundation’s Founder and CEO, says he is excited to add Dunphy to the roster of speakers for 2024.
“We’ve just concluded one of the most active years in our organization’s history, and as we plan for our future, we wanted to pay tribute to the past as well,” Bell says. “There’s no one better to share those tales from the bygone days of male physique photography than Trent Dunphy, who has remained a cherished friend and invaluable resource as an historian for the Foundation for so many years.”
The Speaker Series takes place every other month of the year, alternating with bimonthly screenings of vintage Mizer films that are streamed via Zoom. For more information, on this and other upcoming events, visit www.bobmizer.org/exhibitions.
